Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 30 years, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the practice of yoga has swept the country. You might even have been attending yoga classes yourself during that time. But have you ever experienced therapeutic yoga?
What we normally picture as “yoga” is 20 to 30 students, all doing the same moves or postures that the teacher is doing. This can be wonderful, *if* you’re without injury or limitation, and *if* you’re young and limber and can follow along with the teacher’s pace. But what if you have balance issues, or a stiff back, or a shoulder that’s in spasm?
Healing Yoga is for you. Imagine spending the hour with just the instructor, and it is someone who has specifically trained to work with students of all levels, including those with mobility issues, painful places in their body or those who are pregnant. Our teacher, Anne McDonough, will personalize your session based on what’s going on with you in the moment, as well as on what your goals are. She is also expert at helping you create a state of deep calm and relaxation through your breathing which can help with stress and pain.
Then, she’ll design a home-based program and give you written instructions so that you can repeat the practice in the privacy of your own home. If you are able to set aside an hour on a regular basis, she’ll design a longer practice for you, but if 15-minutes is all you’re likely to have, let her know and she’ll create a custom-made plan that you can accomplish in that amount of time.
